Situation

The family were in need of more living space as well as added bedroom area. The existing dwelling was a detached new build with poor connection to the garden and didn’t capture the beauty of the sea. The clients wanted a route forward on how best to maximise their home.

Following a range of options and detailed discussions with the clients, we settled on a design that not only provided additional living space to the rear but also provided a flexible master bedroom and gave a direct view towards the sea with an angled window. The design of the extension was inspired from the bow of a ship.

As has become typical of many new build developments, they often provide a wide range of spaces within its footprint, but they often are not exactly what an individual family or homeowner is seeking. This is where a detailed analysis of the property and the home owners is very useful. This has then led us to create a bespoke proposal that seeks to intervene, by removing the conservatory, extending the dwelling and re-designing the internals in specific areas to really unlock its fullest potential.
