Situation

We were appointed to assist in housing Shuttercraft Bristol’s first branch. The chosen site was a former retail unit which led to residential spaces at the first floor. The rear of the site had become overgrown with no access to the rear of the site.
  • Sub-divide the retail and residential apartment
  • Introduce a large detached garage to the rear
  • Introduce a ramp to provide access for all
  • Add details that represent the brand
  • Sensitively upgrade the shop frontage
  • Extend into the loft space to enlarge the residential unit

Following an analysis of this site and the potential to extend the dwelling given its site constraints. It was decided that the most appropriate areas to focus on were to extend the residential apartment above, introduce a detached garage at a higher level to the rear and to renew the entrance of the shop and carry out a fully internal refurbishment.

Following a detailed analysis, it was clear that the client wanted to create an eye-catching entrance that gave potential customers the confidence in their brand and he wanted this feeling to continue throughout the unit that was now able to showcase their products. The property also provided a residential apartment above that was historically part of the shop and could now be divided and extended to provide a 2 bedroom apartment with all the modern fixtures and fittings as people have come to expect.
